"Drummer George Sluppick never veers from the pocket of his soul/swamp/New Orleans beats... a creative and versatile drummer with a great feel."
- Linda Pitmon (Modern Drummer Magazine)

George Sluppick is an American drummer, born in Memphis, Tennessee, specializing in blues, funk, soul and R&B music, and has more than thirty recording credits to his name. He graduated from Watkins Overton in Memphis, a creative & performing arts high school, where he studied music theory, sang 2nd tenor in the concert choir and played drums for their award-winning gospel choir, which also made a tour of France, in 1985. Post-graduation, at the age of 19, he went on the road with legendary blues guitarist, Albert King, which opened many doors and allowed him to become a full-time musician. Growing up in Memphis, he shared the stage with many notables, including BB King and Rufus Thomas. In 1991, he moved to San Diego, California and quickly became a major player in the local music scene. It was here where he played drums with Sha Na Na for almost two years and toured the US and Japan. He is featured on two of their CDs: Live in Japan, (Sony Japan) and Rockin' Christmas, (The Gold Label). Afterward, he went on the road for three years with Robert Walter's 20th Congress and is featured on Giving up the Ghost, (Magnatude Records). In 2003, he began drumming with North Florida's own JJ Grey and MOFRO with whom he spent the better part of five years touring the US, Canada, Europe and Australia, and is featured on three of their CDs: Blackwater, Lochloosa and Country Ghetto (all on Alligator Records). In 2006, he teamed with soul singer Ruthie Foster to record her critically acclaimed CD, The Phenomenal Ruthie Foster, (Blue Corn Records) which debuted at #2 on the Billboard blues chart. He most recently completed work on the movie score for, Gospel Hill, which will be released in the spring of '08. George currently resides in Memphis and keeps an active playing and recording schedule, including backing Memphis soul greats, the Bo-Keys and funky organ trio, the City Champs.
